Mountainside Baroque’s 2012-2013 concert series will continue with a program entitled “Music from the Royal Courts of England” on Sunday, November 18 beginning at 4 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Parish on 6 Washington Street in Cumberland, Maryland. This concert, in a seasonal tribute to St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, will celebrate the profusion of wonderful music from the English Courts, encompassing the reigns of Henry VIII through Charles II. Joined by the Frostburg State University Chamber Choir, under the direction Karen Soderberg-Sarnaker, and accompanied by a Baroque string ensemble, the concert centerpiece will be Henry Purcell’s beautiful ode for St. Cecilia’s Day (November 22), “Welcome to all Pleasures.” The concert will feature music by Henry VIII himself as well as motets and madrigals by William Byrd, the “Royal Consorts” by William Lawes for violins, viols and lutes as well as lute duets by Queen Elizabeth’s royal “luter,” John Johnson.

Other guests include New York City-based soprano Elizabeth Baber, Baltimore countertenor Daniel Moody, local favorite Joshua Ruppenkamp, and lute-theorbo player Charles Weaver, also from New York.
